Xanthe

Xanthe was one of the daughters of Oceanus and Tethys. She was called a nymph of the ocean. She studied on an island off the coast. On her way to school she was stopped by the morality police because on the island schooling was forbidden for girls and women.

Xanthe managed to flee and as the police hesitated to shoot her, she could reach a cliff from where she jumped home…

CONTEXT:     "The Taliban have banned women from universities in Afghanistan, sparking international condemnation and despair among young people in the country. The higher education minister announced the regression on Tuesday, saying it would take immediate effect. The ban further restricts women's education - girls have already been excluded from secondary schools since the Taliban returned last year."
