Zeus, supreme god of the Greeks, was in love with Thyia, a clever street nymph from Athens. Zeus watched her house day and night, waiting for a chance to talk to her.
Thyia sensed that somebody spied on her and decided to take action: she armed herself with a razor-sharp knife and waited in front of her house a whole night for her assailant. But he didn’t show up. Zeus had plotted a cunning trick. In the morning he appeared to her in the disguise of a good-natured lizard looking for a friendly chat.
Thyia made short work of her admirer. Gods don’t need air, but lizards do…
