Naiades

Hylas, the young lover of the hero Heracles, walked along a spring in Bithynia. The spring was inhabited by river nymphs called Naiades. The girls spotted the shining youth and enticed him to play with them but then they disappeared. Hylas could not resist their charm; he crossed the creek in search for the girls.

That evening, when Hylas had not returned from his walk, Heracles became worried. He searched everywhere and eventually arrived at the creek. There he found his lover. Hylas was drowned.
Overwhelmed by grief, Heracles killed the spring. He poisoned the water with the juice of hemlock.

All naiades died…
