Horae
Horae were the ancient Greek goddesses of hours and seasons. Their number varied according to different sources, but was most commonly three: the trio of Thallo, Auxo and Carpo. Some scholars say that there were at least five.
The Greeks thought of them as a company of joyous maidens in a perpetual dance of the hours. The Greek word ‘hora’ became in English hour; in French heure; in German Uhr; in Spanish hora; in Dutch uur, etc., so they are still very famous. Without the dancing girls there might not be hours at all...
