Hecate was a goddess who turned harmful spirits away from the house or city she guarded, and protected the individual as he or she passed through dangerous places. She watched over entrances, keeping an eye on everyone who entered. She was able to bestow wealth, victory, and wisdom upon mortals. However Hecate was also known as a goddess who could refuse to ward off the demons, or even drive them against unfortunate individuals.
