Galateia
Galateia became the wife of Pygmalion, a talented Cypriot sculptor. He had made a carving of such a beautiful girl that he fell deeply in love with his creation. When the day of the festival of Venus had arrived, Pygmalion made many offerings at the altar. Scared to admit his desire to the goddess, he silently wished for a bride that would be the living likeness of his marble masterpiece.
When he returned home, he kissed his sculpture, and found that its lips felt warm. He kissed it again, and found that the stone had lost all its hardness. Venus had fulfilled Pygmalion's wish...
